Baptism Cake

About a month ago I made a cake for a sweet eight year old girl, named Gracie!! It is so fun to make cakes for people in my family. Gracie is Aaron's cousins daughter (confused??) We love her, she is super smart and plays heaps of soccer. I wanted to put a mini Gracie on the cake because I remember how fun it was for me to have a figurine of Aaron and I on our wedding cake, I think it turned out pretty good.
The flavor of the cake was chocolate with a chocolate mousse butter cream filling

Cupcakes

I went crazy with cupcakes today. I am testing a white cake recipe for a cake I'm doing in July. This cake was okay, but I think it's better as a cupcake rather than a cake. I made a butter cream frosting and added chocolate for chocolate cupcakes. I filled some of the cupcakes with a strawberry preserve that is homemade.

I am also trying to get my name out there as a baker so I thought what better way than to showcase with cupcakes. So these cupcakes are going to my work, Aaron's work and a few friends.

Elegant Father's Day Cake

I was very excited to make a cake with chocolate dipped strawberries, because cakes with them always look so pretty. I made this cake for Father's day and it was a hit. This is my Favorite chocolate cake recipe and the frosting is a chocolate butter cream.

Testing Cupcakes

I decided to test a cake recipe with cupcakes. Aaron is my cake taste tester, and he gave the White chocolate mud cake two thumbs up!! YAY! I think it's pretty good too. I changed the original recipe a little and I think it made a world of difference. This was also the first time to make cream cheese icing, I thought it tasted really good. The flowers are done using royal icing and they are so fun and yummy to eat.

Baby Blessing Cake

This is my second official cake I made, since my decorating class. I made this cake for a sweet baby boy. I chose a chocolate cake because it's his parents favorite flavor. I added mini chocolate chips to give the cake its added chocolate-ness (so Yummy). The frosting is a butter cream with added white chocolate. It's amazing how much adding chocolate does to the flavor of butter cream. Everyone enjoyed it and I was really happy.
I made the bootie with 1 1/2 cupcakes and used the star tip to create the fur look. The rose is done with a 104 tip and the leaves are made with a leaf tip. Stiff consistency is used for the rose and thin consistency for the leaves. Always use thin consistency for frosting cakes, so it is easy to spread, and create that smooth look.
Tip: Consistency in icing is key. If the consistency of icing is too soft of too stiff, it can make or break a rose, or even base icing a cake.
Tip 2: When coloring icing always use gel coloring as regular food coloring will change the consistency of the icing.

The Cooking Commences...

Since getting married I have been passionate about cooking and love to try new recipes. My mother is a chef, and now we both share this love to create and cook. For some reason cooking helps me relieve stress, and I always feel better after I get the scrumptious food on the table.

Lately, I have been obsessing about sweets!! I have always enjoyed a good brownie, cake, ice cream cone, chocolate, apple pie, I could go on forever. So I finally decided to take a cake decorating class in hopes of turning my hobby into something more.

So bear with me and watch me grow as I try to express my love for the sweeter things in life!
