Baby Blessing Cake

This is my second official cake I made, since my decorating class. I made this cake for a sweet baby boy. I chose a chocolate cake because it's his parents favorite flavor. I added mini chocolate chips to give the cake its added chocolate-ness (so Yummy). The frosting is a butter cream with added white chocolate. It's amazing how much adding chocolate does to the flavor of butter cream. Everyone enjoyed it and I was really happy.
I made the bootie with 1 1/2 cupcakes and used the star tip to create the fur look. The rose is done with a 104 tip and the leaves are made with a leaf tip. Stiff consistency is used for the rose and thin consistency for the leaves. Always use thin consistency for frosting cakes, so it is easy to spread, and create that smooth look.
Tip: Consistency in icing is key. If the consistency of icing is too soft of too stiff, it can make or break a rose, or even base icing a cake.
Tip 2: When coloring icing always use gel coloring as regular food coloring will change the consistency of the icing.
